PDW Maintenance Update

PDW Engine Update

Findings and Direction

The results of the engine inspection are in and repairs are underway.

One end cap was showing distress marks, which is likely the main culprit. One cylinder showed an unusual wear pattern (uneven ridge marks at the bottom of the stroke).

To ensure that the engine provides another 800 to 1000 reliable hours, a top-end overhaul is the least expensive and also the best option. All four cylinders will be honed and new rings and wrist pin caps installed.  All related components will be cleaned, serviced and adjusted prior to installation.

PDW should airborne within two weeks from today, perhpaps even sooner.

The new wiring harness for the ELT is also being built so that the new ELT should be fully operational when PDW is ready to fly.
