October 2017

President's Message

Weather so far this fall has been great for flying.  It's nice to see that PDW has been kept busy.

All members should keep an eye on the temperatures and use engine preheat when required (any time outside tempuratures are below 5°C). The intructions on how to use the Tanis heater remote control are found here in our AircraftClubs.com file repository.  For those who still aren't sure how to use the Switch Box for preheat please ask.

The engine blanket should be installed after every flight when putting the airplane away. Currently the blanket is in the back cabinet. I'd appreciate it if the next person who flies the airplane could put it on.

The Annual has been tentatively scheduled for November. Please keep an eye on the schedule as I expect the dates to change a couple of days here and there based on how the inspections go.

Note that I will be unavailable October 12-20, 2017. In my absence, use the snag form on the club website as usual, or contact Paul Grenier directly for urgent maintenance issues.

As we have done in previous years the club will run the night flying special for the airplane. Details are available below.  Try to take advantage if you have appropriate night checkout and currency.

What's Up

Events and Announcements

Despite the wonderful weather we've enjoyed recently, the reality is that fall is here and colder weather is on the way. So that means it's time for our annual winter Flight Ops presentation. Our October meeting will be held on the 19th at 1900.

The airport management is asking for ideas and comments on the operation and possible improvements of all aspects of the facility going forward. We'll have a discussion on this following the winter opps presentation and hopefully have a few innovative ideas to take back to them. As always it would be great to see a good turnout for dinner at the Hangar Bar and Grill before the meeting. Cheers everyone.

Fly by Night Special!

Winter is coming. Once again this year, there is a $15.00 discount for hours flown at night. The discount will be in effect through March 12th, 2018, the day we go back to daylight savings time. Please apply a $15.00 per hour discount on your invoice for any hours of night flight conducted during this period.

Remember that our insurance requires that all pilots be checked out for night operations. If you are night-rated and have already had your night check ride, this is a great incentive to practice those skills. So, if you have not done your club night check-out, or you just want to safely brush up on those skills, please book a flight with one of the club's check pilots.
