Calling all members - Annual General Meeting

Our club's Annual General Meeting is taking place April 12th at Bistro 26 this year. The time, 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM, coffee and snacks will be available. If you've enjoyed being a member and feel that you would like to contribute please don't hesitate to nominate yourself. Click here to fill out the Self Nomination Form.

Being a director is a privilege. The demands on time are not great, and the opportunity to make a difference in the guidance, operation, and future of the club is a satisfying experience.

If directorship is not your thing, not a problem, participating in the the Annual General Meeting is encouraged; please come out and meet the other members and your new or returning Directors.

P.S. For those who haven't yet looked after their membership dues, this Saturday is the perfect opportunity to save the postage by bringing your cheque book. All pilots must keep their accounts up-to-date to remain on flying status.

In the Envelope

Numerous members have been away from flying during the winter, and require a review or recency check-out.

The new website is operating well and contains vast amounts of pilot resources. Specifically the manuals page contains PDW's books and checklist, where time is always well spent.

The club will institute some new initiatives this coming membership year, aimed at helping pilots maintain or increase skills.

March's Meeting Wrap-up

For those who couldn't make it

This past club meeting was another extremely well-attended event, in spite of moving the date. Our guest speaker was John Lovelace, TV producer, flying enthusiast, and founder/chairman of the Century Flight Club.

John spoke to our club members and guests about the up-coming Century Flight to Nanaimo British Columbia. John's presentation also included mention of previous Century Flights as well as some personal anecdotes from his over 40 years in General Aviation. A special thanks goes out to Ron Haslam, Ontario Director of the Century Flight Club for helping make the night happen.

Closing the meeting, we had an update from David Sprague who is actively running for the position of Director with COPA, we wish David luck and urge all COPA members to take the time to vote. It was another great club meeting, thanks to all who attended.

Maintenance Report

Battery problems have been reported. Tests have shown the battery to be in excellent condition. Reasons for the discharge are under investigation. To ensure a fully charged battery an aviation-specific Battery Minder(tm) has been permanently installed in PDW.
A 120V AC plug is located in the baggage area. The charging unit is behind the baggage compartment bulkhead and is set in "maintenance" mode. A manual for the unit can be found in Journey Log bag.

Detailed instructions for the use of the charger will be made in a forthcoming Newsletter and also posted on the operations board in the hanger. The abridged version follows....

Operation: simply plug it in. It is already (permanently) attached to the battery.

In "maintenance" mode the unit can be plugged into an AC source indefinitely without endangering the battery, although it is expected that connection will only be required in extreme winter conditions or should the battery voltage be lower than expected.

Hangar: (coming soon)
Owen has designed a simple, easy, and elegant system for getting PDW back into the hanger. Owen will provide details once the system has been installed and trials have been completed.

April Club Meeting

Please note there is NO meeting scheduled for the month of April, instead we're all gathering for the AGM at Bistro 26. Stay tuned for May's meeting topic.
